Thematic Mapping

Thematic mapping refers to the formation of maps that accentuate detailed characteristics of a specified geographic area. Thematic maps can be of different kinds, where the themes can be allocated colors. Once this is done, the legend control can be utilized to observe the legend of the themes created.

These maps are appropriate for exhibiting composite data in an easily understood format.

The various kinds of themes that can be created are as follows:

1. Ranges

This theme segregates the data on the quantity of ranges defined. The user can denote the colors to be used with each particular range unit.

2. Pie Charts

In the pie chart theme, the pie is created out of each specified field. This kind of theme is generally used when evaluating values and studying the amount of share, each field has in the entire group.

3. Individual

This theme is used to generate matter where each individual value is given a unique color. These kind of thematic maps are used when mapping a large dataset and trying to find out parallel values.

4. Graduated

Themes are generated on the basis of a single symbol selected by the user and signify it in various sizes to represent the related value.

5. Dot Density

In this, the themes is produced in the form of collection of dots. Here each dot corresponds to a certain value and the numbers of dots gives an idea of the population of the value being represented.

Thematic mapping falls under the category of heat mapping that depict a particular theme relating to a particular geographical area such as states and countries.

Thematic maps are very useful in representing the date of a specific location. They use color-coded areas to indicate geographic patterns as figures and forms in a statistical data. These data include data on population and income of a particular region. Thematic maps include choropleth shaded maps, dot maps, proportional symbol maps and contour or isarithmic maps.

Our cartographers design thematic maps keeping in mind your requirements and custom needs. Creation of these maps requires specific information about a specific area, general information about patterns and a comparison between maps. The sources required for information on these maps should be accurate, authentic and up to date. The information on these maps covers a wide range of subjects from demographic data to environmental data. There is downloadable thematic software available to generate customized maps in accordance with the needs of the user and help in accurate mapping of data.
